This is definitely my newest guilty pleasure.
I dunno... I guess I just love watching over-privileged, under-parented trust fund brats on TV.
Let me start with the cast. Leighton Meester is my favorite amongst those that make the female cast. The way this doe-eyed girl portrays such a wide range of emotions through that gorgeous peepers of hers makes her a rare gem. My favorite from the male cast is Chace Crawford for the very same reasons. Best-looking cast on TV. Hands down.
The scandalous, shocking and unbelievably sexy love affairs make this show even more insanely seductive. The Nate/Serena & Chuck/Blair storylines are definitely the best come-hither subplots of today's television.
The people behind it are well-mixed. Josh Schwartz, the creator, debuted with "The OC" and now his two new babies, "Chuck" and "Gossip Girl", are a big hit. Next, The music arrangement is done by the same person who arranges the music from The OC and Grey's Anatomy -- Both shows whose soundtracks are well-praised. Then, their clothes are being designed by the person behind the Sex & The City wardrobe. Like I said, the ensemble is pretty unbelievable!
The only let-down is that the lead characters are vastly overshadowed by the supporting characters. Serena and Dan are as dull as watching your paint dry. Both need serious characterization. Thank God for Blair, Chuck and Nate!
The biggest bonus is that the title role was given to [insert drumrolls here]: Kristen Bell (VMars to you)!
